Mounir El Asmar is an associate professor at Arizona State University’s School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment in the Del E. Webb School of Construction. He also is a senior sustainability scientist with the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, an Honors faculty member with the Barrett Honors College, and co-director of the National Center of Excellence on SMART Innovations.
Through his use-inspired research activities, El Asmar has focused on improving the performance of the built environment and empowering the stakeholders delivering it. He has successfully conducted research for diverse organizations, ranging from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT); to the Construction Industry Institute (CII); the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA); the Water Research Foundation (WRF); the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP); the National Science Foundation (NSF); as well as public and private organizations in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East.
El Asmar has presented his research at more than 100 national and international venues. His technical papers are published in several archival journals and his scholarship received more than 25 recognitions and awards, including the Construction Industry Institute (CII) Distinguished Professor Award, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)’s Thomas Fitch Rowland Prize, and the DBIA Distinguished Leadership Award.
